A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE MAN BLUES

The springtime's warming bat's alive

the midnight call comes in.

You grab your trusty racquet

as you head for number ten.

At suns first light you're up again

there’s things you must repair.

A ripped up screen, some burned out bulbs,

a broken basement stair.

But, then the service calls begin

of course you never know!

When living here in Michigan

you might get some "spring snow".

Mr. Jones’s sink is plugged

his toilet doesn't flush

Roof gutters fill with cloudburst rain

their seams begin to gush.

And Mrs. Haberhangers stove

has burned another crust.

But! You will catch your breath by noon

in this you surely trust.

The afternoon time whizzes by

you haven't got a prayer,

but find the time to go back down,

and fix that broken stair.

When you get home the couch looks great,

Sit down, take off your shoes.

I guess a Maintenance Man

just hasn't time to sing The Blues!
